ODA cuts gets Spain away of 0.7 and places developpement aid at 2004 levels. Statement from the Confederation of NGOs of Spain.

Stop Recortes en AODMADRID 06/01/2012 - The new cuts in Official Development Assistance (ODA) announced by the government will cause the percentage of GDP devoted to ODA decline from 0.4% to 0.23% down to 2004 levels and will blow up the objective compromised by Spain in international Human Rights and Development Forums of achieving 0.7%.   A possible shortfall in the Spanish contribution to United Nations agencies could compromise the options of Spain to qualify for international management positions within UUNN and call into question the country's options to fill a position within the security council.

At this point it is worth remembering that providing 0.7 of gross domestic product to development aid is a commitment made within the 34 United Nations General Assembly (1980) and this percentage is intended to enable compliance with Article 22 of the declaration of human rights. This states that "Everyone, as a member of society has the right to social security realization, through national effort and international cooperation in view of the organization and resources of each State, of the economic, social and cultural rights indispensable for his dignity and the free development of his personality. "That is, to maintain support at 0.7% in more developed countries is the minimum deemed necessary for less developed countries can guarantee the other rights enumerated in the statement.

It seems that one of the common denominators of this crisis nationally and internationally is that the pieces continue paying them the poorest and most vulnerable.
