ASF collaborates in the installation of the exhibition: With or without Roof. Mechanisms for improving the habitat in Latin America
03/02/2012 MADRID - The precarious habitat, the most visible image of poverty, reaches in Latin America a large proportion of the rural population and up to one third of the urban population. The experience of various countries and stakeholders in improving the habitat is a heritage that allows communication between the countries of Latin America as well as with other countries of different geographical areas. This can be the basis of the cooperation for mutual enrichment in order to, together, contribute to the improvement of the habitat in the world, especially the habitat of populations living in precarious conditions and / or slums
The exhibition, located in “Arquería Nuevos Ministerios. Paseo de la Castellana, 67. Madrid”. From 26 January to 8 April 2012 is structured in several modules, that, after an introduction of the different ways of living and housing situation in Latin America, sets out policies, programs, city projects, housing projects, up to specify construction techniques, intervention techniques and exemplary institutions that works in these matters.
Architects Without Borders (ASF) has participated in the exhibition with the construction of nine models that, using the low cost building technology, have rebuilt nine possible housing types.
The exhibition, which is coordinated from Barcelona, ??is prepared in digital support (Cloud) and is easily exportable, so that from each location can easily be downloaded, printed and displayed and can be adapted to the local requirements and needs. In Spain we have the already developed materials.
Each space can add the individual contributions in which they are working and which are of interest for the community that makes up the network.
The information panels are accompanied by videotaped material and an extensive library on Latin American and Spanish editions.
Within the scope of each place, during the exhibition period, will be held parallel events related to the subject, such as conferences, seminars and workshops, where could participate the people who has worked and collaborated in the production of the exhibition and the publication.
The curator of the exhibition is Lluís Brau, president of the American Federation of Town Planners (FIU), is directed by Peter Lawrence Gálligo, coordinator of the International Union of Architects (UIA), sponsored by the Ministry of Development and in consultation with the Regional Coordination Office of HIC for Latin America.
